An increase in the estrogen can be responsible for the increased libido before the period, while enhanced progesterone can result in lower sex drive. These constraints fluctuate at different stages of the menstrual cycle.

Throughout the menstruation and a few days after it, the concentration of both hormones remains low, which may cause a decrease in sexual desire? By the time of ovulation, levels of estrogen go up and reaching their peak because of which your libido gets more intense during this period. Ovulation is chased by a boost in progesterone production, which leads to a fall in your sex drive.

Who did not use hormonal contraceptives or intrauterine devices and got their first period at least 7 years before the studies. Those studies revealed that among the respondents who had sex regularly, the menstrual cycle duration mostly ranged from 26–33 days. This duration is considered the most favourable for conception since such cycles are usually adulatory. In women having irregular sex, the menstrual cycle duration ranged on a broader scale; very short or very long periods, which are generally adulatory, were observed more often than those in the group having more regular sex.
