In truth of the history of Pornhub isn’t the most popular porn website any more. There are a lot of others which have been in existence before it. However, it is the largest porn website in the industry right now, and it is making some serious cash over its content.

When Pornhub was founded in 2007, it actually had a different name- Interhub. Matt Keezer, the man who developed the site and completely changed millions of lives. He had the vision to create something that will completely revolutionize the Internet. He was able to channel humans’ love for pornography onto that.

The company as eventually purchased by German businessman Fabian Thylmann in 2010. And became a part of the Manwin pornography conglomerate. (A company which has also changed and is now known as MindGeek). Essentially, Pornhub’s role in MindGeek is to provide pornographic content.

Over the years, Pornhub has grown to become the top-notch adult content platform on the Internet. The company has managed to fend off competition from a slew of other sites.

Through expert marketing and a growing catalogue of content to choose from. It has provided men and women with quite a lot of options to choose from as far as entertainment and pleasure are concerned.

Of course, none of this has come without a lot of bumps along the way. In its, Pornhub history has been hit with lawsuits left and right. And the company itself has done a lot of damage control when it comes to its reputation.

From people who believe that the company has plagiarized their content to those who think that it should be banned entirely. Pornhub has pretty much faced it all.

Still, it has managed to stay relevant among adults in today’s world. As people become more accustomed to adult entertainment, it has improved immensely in popularity.

Why it has grown so much

There are a lot of reasons why Pornhub is so popular, and all of these have contributed immensely to the growth of the company.

Content numbers are insane.

The first will have to be the repertoire of content that the platform has. Apart from various categories (we will get to that later for sure), the pure amount of content that they have is also crazy. Earlier this year, Popular Mechanics revealed that Pornhub transferred 4,403 petabytes of data; not megabytes or gigabytes, mind you.

When a person gets on to Pornhub, they are met with a slew of content that can last them a lifetime. That’s the point. A lot of us are into sex, and for those who will like to indulge in porn, the platform has way more than enough content to keep you hooked for the rest of your life.

In addition to the pure content, there is also the classification that Pornhub provides the platform was one of the first porn sites to class videos based on the porn stars themselves. They’ve been able to tap into the subconscious of people.

You see, we humans are different. While one person loves to see lesbian sex, another likes some virgin stuff. Regardless of what you want, you can rest assured that Pornhub has it. This means that you can smoothly go on the platform and search for what you love by going to the categories page.

For the people who go to porn sites and have something specific to see, Pornhub provides you with ease of finding just what you want. This, in addition to the fact that the company has a lot of videos in one category, means that viewers will be hooked indeed.

Philanthropy and community outreach

Pornhub has done quite a lot of work in philanthropy as well. Ever since 2012, the company has hosted several events and campaigns to improve awareness of various issues and to raise money to support causes.

In 2012, the company held the “Boob Bus,” a special event in New York City where a tour bus travelled through several landmarks in the city. The event was intended to raise breast cancer awareness by providing free exams to passers-by, as well as to teach people how to conduct some natural self-examination methods while at home. Dr Richard Shafer, a plastic surgeon, was present for this, and the cheerleader was a famous porn star, Bree Olson.

In honour of Arbour Day 2014, Pornhub launched a full-week environmental campaign called “Pornhub Gives America Wood.” The event started in April 2014 and ended in early May, and in a similar manner to the “Save the Boobs” breast cancer awareness initiative, the company offered to plant a tree for every 100 videos watched on its “Big Dick” category.

All in all, the company counted about 1.54 million video views and planted a total of 15,473 trees.

In fall 2018, the company paid a contractor to perform leaf removal services across Dutchess County, New York as a charity event as well. There aren’t many porn companies that take philanthropy seriously, and this is another thing that differentiates Pornhub from the rest of the field. Its activism has definitely helped it; apart from drawing more people to actually watch porn videos, the company has also managed to endear itself to other brands and people who care about the health and the environment.

Now, Pornhub is seen as a company that doesn’t just care about sex and people being penetrated all day long.
